Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunting on Kodiak Island
Although not indigenous to the Kodiak Island Archipelago, the Sitka Blacktail Deer seem to be perfectly suited to this beautiful mountainous terrain. Transplanted on Kodiak in the 1920’s with only a handful of animals, these hardy deer quickly adapted to the area and have flourished to great numbers as they have spread throughout the entire archipelago.
Guided Hunts
Kodiak Wilderness Adventures is operated by an Alaska registered guide. This is advantageous to our guests that are pursuant of Sitka Blacktail Deer, or any other big game species on Kodiak Island, when deciding the best location to hunt as well as understanding the habits of these animals. Safety is our first and foremost objective. We couple our commitment to provide a safe, fun-filled experience in the wilderness with a passion for trophy-oriented results. Alaska Statutes do not prohibit a guide from assisting the hunter in the field with any task associated with the hunt, including site selection, pursuit of game, field dressing, outfitting of the hunt, and packing out the animal. A hunter that is not under contract with a registered guide may not be assisted by a licensed Transporter in any of these activities.
Kodiak Wilderness Adventures provides one guide per every two Sitka Blacktail Deer hunters. While in the field, your guide will share his knowledge of the area and the game that lives here on Kodiak Island as well as help select a memorable trophy that will surely be one of the highlights of your Kodiak Wilderness Adventure.
Transportation to the community of Port Lions is easily accommodated via daily air service from the Kodiak State airport or through the Alaska Marine Highway System’s state ferry boats, the “M/V Tustemena” & “M/V Kennincot”. The ferry transportation option is a favorite of our Alaska resident guests.
