How to get to Kodiak Wilderness Adventures on Kodiak Island, Alaska
We have had many requests to post information about getting to Kodiak and our pick up and departure times. People want to know about booking their flight times into and out of Kodiak.
When booking your flights into Anchorage, you have the option to choose many carriers. Most major airlines fly into Anchorage. Most of our guests choose to connect with Alaska Airlines because of its daily service between Anchorage and Kodiak.
The first flight each morning arrives into Kodiak at 7:00 am and other flights arrive periodically throughout the rest of the day until late evening. Alaska Air is also a partner with Ravn Alaska Air which has 4 to 5 daily flights from Anchorage into Kodiak. The flight times from Anchorage to Kodiak vary from 50 minutes on the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 to just over an hour on the Ravn Air DeHavilland Dash 8 turbo prop aircraft.
Although the Ravn Air turbo prop planes are smaller and traveling on them is less comfortable than travel aboard an Alaska Airlines 737, they are allowed to operate at lesser minimum weather clearances than the larger jets and will make it in and out of the Kodiak State Airport with greater frequency. For this reason we encourage our guests to utilize Ravn Air rather than Alaska Airlines for at least the departure leg of your travel.
Our scheduled arrival and departure dates are arriving between 4-6 PM on Wednesdays and departing back to Kodiak by 9 AM on Tuesdays. If you are with us for a shorter stay (4 days/5 nights) the arrival day pick up time is the same but departure would be at 9 AM on Mondays. We have scheduled these in and out days to take advantage of as many open fishing days for Halibut as possible.
Some folks prefer to arrive a day ahead of the start of the fishing trip and explore Anchorage for a night or fly on down to Kodiak and spend a night there. We encourage guests to do this for a couple of reasons. First, for weather related delays ( FOG or WIND ) and secondly to get yourself good and rested before you start catching large numbers of huge fish!
Important to note is that we cannot pick you up or take you back to Kodiak early in the morning which means please do not book an early morning (9 AM or earlier) flight into or out of Kodiak (unless you are planning to spend the night in Kodiak). These include very early morning pick-ups or departures. Our lodge is located about an hour to an hour and a half travel time via our fishing boat and vehicle from the Kodiak Airport or a 15-minute flight from our airstrip here in Port Lions to the Kodiak Airport.
Many of our guests have commented that the trip to our lodge in Port Lions is the perfect start to an Alaskan Adventure because of the views and marine life seen on the way when traveling by boat to the lodge. Travel to the lodge by plane and see the amazing snow-covered mountain peaks and incredible views of the waters you’ll be fishing. Either way, you’ll want your camera handy along the route for some great photo opportunities. We call these “Kodiak Moments.”
We hope that your plans to visit Kodiak Island are made a little easier with this information. We are always available to assist our guests with a local’s perspective.
