General Questions

Q. What will the weather be like?

Kodiak Island enjoys generally mild coastal weather with moderate precipitation and occasional high winds.  During the summer months the days are long and temperatures comfortable. Experienced fishermen prepare for their trips by dressing in layers because the weather can change quickly during a fishing trip. Rain is always a possibility, but don't worry, it is typically a light rain and a drizzle once in a while.

Duck and big game hunters should expect colder temperatures ranging from a low of 5 degrees in the morning to somewhere just above freezing during the heat of the day.

Hunting Packages

Q. What varieties of duck will we hunt?

As many as seven different species of Alaska's Sea duck varieties arecommon to our area including: Common, Surf & White Winged Scoters, Harlequin, Old Squaw (Long-tailed duck), Red Breasted & Common Mergansers. Less common Sea Ducks but occasionally taken are the King & Common Eiders.

Q. How many ducks are we allowed to take?

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game regulations allow for Nonresident licensed hunters to take up to 7 Sea Ducks per day and posses up to 20 per season. Additionally a Nonresident may not posses more than 4 of any the following species per season. Common Scoter, Surf Scoter, White Winged Scoter, Harlequin, Old Squaw ( Long-tailed Duck), Common Eider & King Eider.

Q. How far in advance do we need to plan a Big Game Hunt?

We would like to encourage the sportsman that is considering any trip to start your planning process well in advance. The Alaska State permit drawing applications are due in the spring ( on or before 5 / 31) for a possibility of drawing a permit for a fall hunt & in the fall ( 12 / 6 ) for the possibility of drawing a spring permit.

We recommend that guests bring layers of clothes because the weather can change fast during a fishing trip.

Since our fishing packages are at least four days/five nights, you'll want to pack any prescription medicines you'll need for this length of visit.
